Severe Chances Today, Friday and into the Weekend

The SPC has issued a Marginal risk of severe thunderstorms in areas across the northeast this afternoon.

The largest threats today will likely be gusty winds possibly exceeding 50 MPH in areas of the strongest storms.

The expected timing of the event today will be after 3 PM and decrease after sunset.

On Friday, a stronger frontal boundary will work through the central and northern plains procing a Slight risk of severe storms. The largest threats will likely be damaging hail, gusty winds and an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out.

The threat for excessive rain will also be a concern, as moderate to heavy rain showers are in the forecast.

Here is the expected timing for the development of storms throughout the afternoon.

As the storm system moves to the east on Saturday, so will the threat of severe weather.
